Keep in mind that Walmart maintains strict requirements to be a seller on their platform. The Walmart Marketplace is a similar business model of Amazon.com, eBay, and Jet.com and will collect the money directly, deduct your commission and pay the retailer bi-weekly.

What about the new Jet.com acquisition?

Walmart has recently acquired the one-year old Jet.com marketplace in a cash and stock deal valued at $3.3 billion. Walmart is the world’s largest retailer by revenue reports online sales that brought in $13.7 billion in sales last year, including sales from approximately 600 third-party approved online retailers. Internet Retailer estimates that Jet has more than 2,400 merchants selling on its site currently. Walmart says Jet will continue to operate as its own distinct brand…at least for now.

Best Practice Data Fields for eCommerce Files

  2. Relentless Product Sourcing.  Selecting the right merchandise providers can be a fun, but tedious part of starting an online business. Before you start, you’ll need a registered business name and tax ID. Real wholesale suppliers need proof you are a legitimate retailer before they can give you access to their actual wholesale pricing structure and set up an account. Also, decide you’re your business structure will be:  buying inventory in bulk, dropshipping, or a combination of both. Once you have access to their product information, be sure to negotiate for the best possible discounts, and check the product margins to eliminate those not worth selling.
